Behr Concrete Stain – Two Kinds

by Tom "The DIY Guy" Wesley

Behr concrete stains can help transform your slab of concrete into a thing of beauty and delight. In addition to its beauty, a concrete stain also adds protection to the concrete, doubling its usefulness. Read on to find out more about the two different kinds of concrete stain that behr offers to its customers who wish to enliven their concrete with color and style.

There are two different kinds of Behr concrete stain. One is their semi transparent stain for concrete. This particular stain is exactly that–semi-transparent, allowing the natural characteristics of the concrete to show through the stain. When applied correctly to concrete, it can give the look of tile or of natural stone. This semi-transparent stain works excellently on indoor and outdoor walkways, driveways, patios, and concrete flooring. Behr Concrete Stains

The other kind of Behr stain is one that is applied more like a paint and also looks like a paint. This kind of stain has particular advantages that make it a delight to use on your concrete pad. Once applied, the stain looks like the concrete was painted–this is an opaque stain that does not show the natural detail of the concrete through the finish. The solid color concrete stain is both water resistant and durable, made of 100% acrylic resins that create a long-lasting finish for your concrete. It can be used on nearly any concrete, including vertical and horizontal structures, as well as interior or exterior surfaces. In addition to being used on standard concrete applications such as driveways, walkways, patios, and garage floors, this stain is also useable on brick, stone, tennis courts, and cement blocks. It is very versatile and can help you create a vibrant yet strong flooring for the area in which it is applied.

To ensure that the stain will correctly bond with the concrete, you should ensure that the concrete is properly prepared. Sweep the entire surface free of debris, paint chips, and dirt. It should be washed with an acid wash. Next you should apply a concrete primer, allowing this to dry for at least eight hours before applying the actual stain. The final step is to actually stain your concrete. You should apply a second coat after the first twenty-four hours for best results. After the final coat, wait another twenty-four hours before walking on the surface. It will still be considered wet for another two weeks, so do not put any furniture or cars on the concrete for that long after you are finished applying the stain.

Behr concrete stains are excellent finishes to concrete jobs and pads that need protection and color added. When searching for the correct stain for your living area, ensure that you get the correct kind of stain that you are looking for, either semi-transparent or opaque. This will make an immense difference in the way that you apply the concrete stain and in the appearance of the finished product. Keeping the above-mentioned tips in mind will enable you to select, apply, and enjoy the perfect concrete stain for your home.
